How to travel in Bali like a pro?

Please keep this in mind:

The new International terminal is an impressive three-storey structure. The first floor is for arrivals and the middle second floor offers shops, bars, restaurants and money exchange facilities. The spacious third floor is where international departures are located, along with numerous restaurants and shops.

Ngurah Rai International Airport:

First floor: International Arrivals

If you're flying in to Bali from overseas, this is where you will be arriving. The new, airy  arrivals floor offers free WiFi so you can connect to the internet as soon as you land and get in touch with friends and family to let them know you've arrived in Bali safely.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo decreed that the citizens of 30 countries — including the United States — can now obtain free-of-charge visas on arrival in Indonesia that will be valid for a 30-day stay in the country.

The following 30 countries are now eligible for visa-free status: The USA, Canada and Mexico; Great Britain, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, the People’s Republic of China, South Korea and Japan; Qatar, the U.A.E., Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman; New Zealand and South Africa.

They now join the following countries already granted with this status: Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Singapore, Darussalam, Philippines, Chile, Morocco, Peru, Vietnam, Ecuador, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Hong Kong and Macau.

The soon your driver picks you up, my best advice is to go direct to your hotel and enjoy your relaxing time to get some massages because anywhere you stay in Bali, most available SPA resorts are very accessible and offer reasonable price.

Next thing, you need to get  a sim card for your phone. This should be your first priority when landing. If you haven’t arrived yet, make sure your phone can accept foreign sim cards through your service provider. Sim cards are really cheap here and for about 150k, you should have enough credit to do most things (unless you want to watch loading of You Tube videos stream music). Once you have that, a whole new world opens up.

Download Uber and Gojek apps. These two apps will absolutely make your life easier. Uber is pretty efficient here and it means you won’t have to go through the pain of haggling for taxis. The fares also cost significantly less. Gojek is essentially the same thing except on a motorbike and the fare is a flat 15k and you can get them to bring food as well as anything else you might want.

Utilize Google maps. Because you have your phone in working order, now you can tell what’s walking distance and what is clearly not. While not perfect (our map is better), Google Maps will give a pretty good time estimate of how long it takes to get to places factoring in traffic so that you can plan your days appropriately.

Wear sandals, since the weather average in Bali 79 degree F with 64-85 humidity.  Make sure you wear your summer outfits.  Remember, stay hydrated... Don't forget your bathing suits.

Exercise good throttle control. You can instantly recognize when someone is a newbie on a motorbike by the way how they use the throttle. Novices will lay on the gas hard and unevenly leading to a lot of control issues. Once you master the throttle, you’ll look like a pro on the bike.  If you don’t want to drive;  you can hire a private driver ,so you can sit relax in the car with AC and enjoy the ride.

Things to do in Bali during the low season

The low season: January 9 to June 30; September 16 to December 20.

The low season is a great time to negotiate deals on accommodations and find cheap hotel packages, and more.

Alas, we’ve hit the doldrums and the hordes of Christmas/New Years have returned to their homes. It’s the low season now,  which means fewer tourists…. So what to do?

Exercise. It’s time to get back in shape so that you’re in your prime for when high season kicks in. The (should be) rainy days and nights provide an excellent opportunity to work on your body.

Get a significant other. The prime hunting season is over. Those large groups of singles ready to mingle are going to be dwindling. Time to put the prowl on hold and find yourself a regular thing.

Enjoy nature. It’s an excellent time to go on day trips to less populated parts of the island, whether they be mountains, waterfalls, rafting, diving, bicycling, climbing the mountain,  or anything north of here. All the tour buses jamming up the roads are now greatly reduced. If you enjoy a good day trip, now is the time.

Enjoy mellower parties. You’re not going to get packed like a sardine at every venue and that can be a good thing. Learn to enjoy a more chill atmosphere where you don’t wait forever for drinks and no one is constantly bumping into you.

Become a regular. It’s time to pick your favorite spot and crew up with people who know your name. The less people around, the more  they are recognizable. Cozy up with a regular crew at a regular joint before the migrating hordes return.

Stay somewhere new. Accommodation prices are traditionally lowest this time of year, so if you want to stay at a villa some ways off or just want to hotel it up for a weekend with friends, now is the time.
